Conditioning also was not great - although special dispensation as it was very early in the season - even the logo balls for 2022 were yet to arrive in the pro shop. I would remove a couple of trees on hole 10 to open up the view of the attractive waste bunker and perhaps also a few fir trees on the inside of the dogleg on hole 2. I would have preferred the Principal’s Nose bunker on 17th to be more of a fairway hazard as opposed to pushed up against the green, and a random bunker to the left of the teeing area on one hole (also #8 I think) left me scratching my head. Other elements that did not work for me: The Church Pews bunkers on hole 8 felt like the golden age equivalent of putting a water fountain on a Florida resort course. Quick note on opening holes in general: I like the gentle handshake concept but it’s also important they look inviting, impressive, & create anticipation for the round ahead. However, some of the routing in between loses its way - with a few holes on the latter part of the front 9 feeling a little back & forth. Keney Park has an excellent start at 1-3, which is largely mirrored by the opening 10-13 on the back 9. I made the mistake of reading Adam’s review below & now have little more to add. 9 offers a more reachable Road hole for Hartford golfers.
